Furniture is usually susceptible to damage during transportation from one location to another. This article discusses some suggestions that you can implement to protect your furniture while you lift it during the removals process.
Lift the Furniture Correctly
You should not randomly select the points that you hold onto the furniture. Find out what sections of that furniture are the strongest so that you can use those parts to lift the furniture. For example, find a horizontal component that is part of the frame of that furniture. Hold onto this component while you are lifting the furniture. This will prevent the furniture from getting damaged during the lifting process.
Know When Drawers Can Be Removed
It is usually advisable to remove the drawers from your furniture to reduce the overall weight of that furniture. However, some situations may require the drawers to remain in place during the lifting process. For example, don't remove the drawers if the frame is shaky. Leave the drawers in place so that your furniture can retain its stability. Otherwise, the joints may separate as the furniture is lifted.
Avoid Slippery Gloves
Do not use any slippery gloves, such as cotton gloves, when lifting furniture. Such gloves will not allow you to have a firm grip on the furniture. Select protective gloves that will give you a firm grip, such as leather gloves.
Move Slowly
Don't start the moving process when you are in a hurry. Furniture is most likely to be damaged when it is lifted by people who are in a hurry. Move slowly so that any accident that occurs during that process doesn't cause major damage to the furniture. For example, bumping into a wall at a slow pace will be less damaging than bumping into the same wall as you move the furniture at a faster pace.
Have a Spotter
It is helpful for you to assign one person the task of watching the people carrying the furniture so that they do not bump into walls or other obstructions along their route. This spotter is particularly necessary since some of the people carrying the furniture may not be able to see where they are going. The spotter can warn them to change direction or slow down when they are approaching an uneven surface.
